Quirky Chair

My quirky artsy side is showing with this chair makeover.  You're going to love it, or think I'm crazy.  I've already had interest in it.  So, I'm not THAT crazy.  No paint involved, cause I liked the weathered finish on it.  However, I wanted to do something different.

I'm sure you've spotted what's different about it?  While working on some of my reverse images, with the french book page background,

I figured out what I wanted to do with this chair I picked up.  It had veneer missing.

Although I know how to make molds as such, I thought it would be more fun to fill in the missing areas with french book pages.  Just because.

Talk about embracing imperfections.

I used a little brown wax over the pages to give them added patina.  I also waxed the rough edges surrounding them.

Kinda looks like the book pages were there first.

I'm off to get a lot of work done. Hopefully.  See ya soon.

  3. Great chair, Rosemary! I love how you filled in those missing veneer spots with the book pages. I like the look and it does look like the pages were layered down first.

  4. Genius! I'll never shy away from furniture with a little torn veneer again. In fact, I might just have to remove a little from some fixer uppers I already have. Love this idea Rosemary.

  24. Ok......NOW I know what I'm going to do with an old sideboard that is waiting for me to give some TLC. It, too, is missing a lot of veneer. Did you just slide that page in the missing area, Rosemary...?? I'd love to know the particulars on the technique.

  48. I guess if you're crazy, Rosemary, then I'm crazy too because I really like what you did with the chair. It almost makes it seem alive: as if it had a prior existence before it became THOS chair. I guess that sounds pretty weird, but I think it's a very coool way to fix up that chair; gives new meaning to "conversation piece". Love it.

  49. Well Rosemary, if this is crazy I wish to be so. Next time I find a piece with a little missing veneer I'll know just what to do. Fantastic fix, thanks for sharing.

  53. You and your chair came along just in the knick of time! I've been trying to figure a way to incorporate a design into a flaw on a table top by drawing attention to it rather than away from it. I was going to paint a design, but painting is not my best thing. Something along these lines might work. Love your clever and well-styled ideas!
