Redesigned Former Music Box

Here's a little piece I redesigned this afternoon.

The before.

A former music box, this is what the inside looked like.

I glued thick board over the holes, then filled them from the bottom with wood filler.

I gave the entire thing multiple coats of antique white paint, and a little distressing. The interior was painted as well.  My vintage script was copied onto tissue, and applied to the top insert,

and the interior.

The piece it's sitting on is almost finished.

I picked it up at a garage sale.  I love the scrolls, but, didn't care for the flowers.

Here's what it looks like now.  It's about to become a sign.

It's hot and humid here.  Two things I'm not crazy about.  I'm hanging out inside, making little pretties,

  1. Rosemary,
OMG!!! I love the box re love!!! You made that piece so pretty. I am so hating this weather we are having too. I wish it would cool off but not looking to great for that to happen anytime soon. I just did a post on my redo of my deck and I cannot even go out there to enjoy it!!! Stay cool.

  13. I KNOW it is SO humid! I can't do anything. I tried cleaning up the year a bit yesterday and just about died after 20 minutes.

  14. Rosemary, you have an incredible talent for seeing the potential in a piece that most of us would just pass over! Every time I go to garage sales or thrift stores, I try to do this, but I guess it must take a lot of practice to choose the right items. This is a beautiful example of your creativity. Guess the "dog days" of Summer are already upon us. . .it's hot and humid in Northern Ohio as well. . .stay indoors where it's cool! Hope you're feeling better.

  15. Wow, what a transformation! The music box is stunning! The heat has me really pooped out and I'm still battling a summer cold so I've been hiding indoors too.

  22. Oh my goodness. Now how many of those little boxes have I passed by? That is so adorable - and the plaque is going to be a stunner as well. How about this heat? BUT, still better than snow.

  25. I think you see beauty in everything we all miss. I'm going to re-think how things will work instead of passing them up at yard sales.

  26. That music box and plaque are fabulous!! Another amazing makeover Rosemary. Hope you are all healed now. Definitely take it easy and stay indoors during this heat wave. I am in KY and its been a very miserable week here. Although prior to this week the weather hasn't been so bad.

  28. That box is stunning Rosemary! You always pay such attention to detail! I probably would've pooped out after doing the outside but you made the inside just as pretty!
