Hydrangeas and Alabaster

The overwhelming response to the unique carrier from my last post has made me realize something. I've been over thinking what you may enjoy seeing here. In addition to my painting, I've always enjoyed repurposing and reconfiguring interesting items I pick up at flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores, curbside, etc., but I haven't shared many with you. So, I'm going to stop over thinking things, and just start firing off whatever I happen to be working on or playing around with. Ideas, tips, tutorials, furniture projects, vignettes, etc.

In my post "Redesigning With Parts", I repurposed metal lamp parts.  Here are some decorative ideas for alabaster and marble fragments. I picked up a bunch of dried hydrangeas at a garage sale this weekend. I put some in one of my vintage basket's, but I wanted to do something  different with a few of the other stems. So, I decided to use a few of these lamp and pedestal fragments. I purchased these a while back at an estate sale. I simply cannot pass up interesting pieces when I see them.

I added a chunk of Styrofoam to the center of one piece.

to create a vase.

Here is a smaller one.

Of course they make great candle holders too.

I'll be back soon.

  24. Rosemary,

I love marble for its coolness to the touch and the more grey grained the better. They have made lovely vases, and candle holders.

I have dried hydrangeas and love the looks of them. It is a relatively easy thing to do if the hydrangeas are picked at the right time of the season.

Can't wait to see what else you have been up to.

  25. I love this idea...it turned out beautifully - I really like the idea of using it as a candle holder. I know what you mean about overthinking things, sometimes I wish I could just follow my 1st instinct rather than 2nd guessing myself. You're obviously very talented, so you can do anything and it will turn out well. Thanks for sharing.
