Plaster Crown

Look at what I made.

Remember, not that long ago, I was molding, and sculpting with clay.  Well, for the past few weeks, I've been envisioning plaster sculptures.  Especially crowns.  Today, I finished my first.

This crown is made entirely out of plaster.  It's solid plaster.  I wanted it to be substantial, and, to look as if it had been detached from something.  So, I intentionally gave the bottom a rough appearance.

I applied layers of paint in various consistencies, until I got the look I wanted.

It's 4" tall, 4" square up top, and 2-3/4" in diameter at the base.

Rosie approves.

I'm happy, no, thrilled at how it turned out.  I'll be playing around with various finishes on my other ones.

How do you like it?

I have a few more plaster designs I'll be sharing soon.

Fall Clearance? Going Out of Business?

When I announced yesterday on Facebook that I was, "Selling It All", I was flooded with questions.

Is this a Fall Clearance?

Are you going out of business?

Are you going to stop blogging?

Are you moving?

Will you ship something if I'm not local?

How can you part with these things?

Okay, here's the deal.  You can call this a Fall Clearance, but, it's really more than that. With all the purging I've done over the Summer, I still have a lot.  Especially hardware, vintage smalls, and curiosities.

I'm not going out of business.  My business is going through changes, and, I have new endeavors on the horizon.  I'll be working smarter.

Blogging?  I'm not leaving.  However, there will be changes here too.

I'll be selling this weekend, and, beyond, till I get rid of everything I want gone.  If you're local (I'm in Lansing, IL), you're welcome to stop by.  Just email me for info.  If you're not local, feel free to send me an email if you see something you're interested in.

In no way is this everything.  I'll post more pictures over the next few days.

I'm selling away.

Framed Clock Face

My latest clock face painting.

The demand for my clock faces continues.  Here's another variation.

This frame was just perfect for one of my hand painted clock faces.  So, I cut a piece of wood to fit, and went to work.

After painting, framing, and distressing my clock face, I thought there was too much blank space.

I didn't want anything too busy, because it would fight for attention with the frame.

I decided on a simple band of distressed white.  It was just enough.

It's 37" from top to bottom, and I'm loving it.

I used the homemade paint recipes from my Farragoz course for the frame, and the clock. I haven't decided if I'm going to antique it yet.

What do you think?

Quickie Cabinet Makeover

This was a quick fix.

Before.

I stained a copy of a vintage print, decoupaged it to the door, and went over the entire piece with a light brown stain. A vintage metal knob finished it.

It has a little more character now.

Clock Face Crazy and Just Plain Busy

It's been a little clock face crazy here lately.

As you know, I've been painting clock faces.  Well, I've been finding them too.  In my last post, I shared some of my finds from this past weekend, which included clock faces.  This vintage clock face is another one.

A couple posts back, I shared a peek at a distressed clock face I was working on.

A dealer friend of mine asked if I could paint a clock face for her using a piece of wood she spotted the last time she was over.

You can see how much larger it is than my other clocks. I was contemplating adding more detail, but, she liked it the way it was.

My friend is Traci of Whimsy.  She has a beautiful shop in Morris, IL.

Not only did she buy the large clock, but, she drove away with every clock I had finished, and a bunch of other stuff.

BTW, my heavily distressed clock face was the number one favorite on Facebook, and here.

However, I also have requests for this version.

Here's another one I painted on a salvaged piece of metal.  I wanted it to look like I discovered a clock face under layers of paint.

So, I've been making clock faces, cleaning up and selling some of my recent finds,

like this vintage scale.  It now lives with my friend, Sharon.

I've also started painting frames,

and, I have to get at a bunch of other projects.

I've just been busy in general.

I've been baking more than usual as well.  I'm blaming it on the chilly Fall weather we've been having.

See ya soon.
